AUMOVIO wins important contract for CoSmA: digital vehicle access delivered as an end-to-end solution for the first time
Frankfurt, May 5, 2026. With an important contract for its CoSmA digital vehicle key system, AUMOVIO further strengthens its position in the field of intelligent access solutions. The agreement with a leading European vehicle manufacturer marks an important milestone for the technology company: for the first time, AUMOVIO will deliver its access system as a fully integrated end-to-end solution from a single source. The scope of supply includes in-vehicle hardware and software, mobile device connectivity, as well as backend and cloud integration including centralized key management.
The car manufacturer plans to gradually integrate the technology into vehicles starting with series launch in 2028 and expand deployment across the majority of relevant vehicle platforms by mid of 2029.
Digital access systems are evolving into a core enabling technology for modern software-defined vehicles. With CoSmA, we are addressing exactly what the market demands: high security, seamless user experiences and flexible cloud-based functionality. Vehicle access is the first point of interaction between users and their cars. When the vehicle key is directly available on the smartphone and access rights can be shared easily, this creates measurable value for OEMs and end users in the form of greater convenience, increased scalability, enhanced security, and a modern digital user experience.

Digital vehicle access with smartphone and wallet integration
At the core of the solution is CoSmA, a digital vehicle key that enables hands-free unlocking and starting of the vehicle via smartphone. A key advantage: users do not need to actively take their phone out of their pocket. Access is provided directly via the smartphone wallet (such as Apple Wallet or compatible Android wallet solutions), rather than through a separate app. The digital key is securely integrated into both the device and vehicle security architectures – comparable to how sensitive payment card data is protected.
CoSmA uses secure, energy-efficient Bluetooth communication combined with ultra-wideband (UWB) technology to detect whether an authorized smart device is located in close proximity to the vehicle. The digital keys required for vehicle access are generated centrally via cloud-based key management and securely provisioned to both the vehicle and the user’s device. Precise UWB positioning enables centimeter-level location accuracy and enhances security by preventing typical attack scenarios such as relay attacks (“man-in-the-middle” methods). As a result, the risk of unauthorized vehicle access is significantly reduced. In addition, multiple digital keys can be created simultaneously and conveniently shared with family members, friends or service providers.
CCC-certified system architecture for secure and scalable digital vehicle access
AUMOVIO’s system is certified according to the latest generation of standards defined by the independent and industry-wide established Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC). These standards address key requirements for cybersecurity, data protection and system stability. The CCC Digital Key Standard defines secure interaction between vehicle, smartphone and cloud infrastructure and enables cross-manufacturer interoperability of digital vehicle keys. CoSmA also includes an additional backup function: even if the smartphone battery is empty (“black screen”), vehicle access remains available via an NFC-based solution.
As part of the current contract, AUMOVIO is supplying the complete CoSmA system, including the central control unit, ultra-wideband transmitter and receiver modules, NFC readers with NFC cards, and intelligent onboard software powered by AI algorithms. For the first time, the solution also includes full cloud and backend integration with centralized key management. The system architecture is designed from the outset to support phased deployment and scalable expansion across multiple vehicle platforms. For complex digital access systems that exchange data between multiple computing units, smart devices and cloud servers inside and outside the vehicle, an integrated end-to-end solution from a single source offers clear advantages. These include improved data management, higher system stability, better scalability, simplified lifecycle management and greater development efficiency.
Looking ahead, AUMOVIO is already working on the next evolution of digital vehicle access: so-called intuitive access solutions. The goal is to further enhance CoSmA by leveraging existing in-vehicle sensor technology. Based on AI, sensor fusion and cloud connectivity, vehicles will be able to recognize users, interpret intent and enable an even more natural, frictionless and user-friendly access experience.
