Airbag Control Units (ACU)

Here you can find all relevant information and products regarding Airbag Control Units (ACU). Learn more about our passive and integrated safety ACU portfolio, pedestrian and occupant protection.

Airbags have been a standard element of vehicle safety equipment for many years. For the most part, the basic safety functions are technically mature. However, there are many ways in which they can be extended to cover other applications and functions as part of an overall safety concept. In this extended active role, electronic safety systems can help not only to limit the potential damage in an accident; they can also serve to prevent accidents by integrating diverse information from environment sensors and the vehicle itself.

AUMOVIO’s modular SAFE platform concept  allows an economical and efficient development and offers a high level of flexibility and integration options. The results are currently visible in three product lines.

Our Airbag Control Units (ACU)

Pedestrian Protection

The Pedestrian Protection System raises the hood to reduce the risk of severe injury to the pedestrian from hitting the hood and underlying engine block.

Out-of-Position (OOP) scenarios, airbag deployment trials, and ejection mitigation strategies are evaluated to verify system reliability. Additionally, tensile tests, structural assessments, and bumper pendulum tests are conducted to analyze material strength and energy absorption. These combined methods provide a comprehensive approach to validating safety systems and improving overall crash performance.
  • Rapid recognition of every required pedestrian impact situation
  • Excellent robustness
  • Redundant system for maximum safety
  • Robustness improvement by usage of data fusion of forward looking

Occupant Protection

Occupants are being protected by restraint systems like seatbelts and airbags in case of various crash situations.

Red circuit lines highlight the integration of safety electronics within the vehicle structure.
  • Airbag and belt pretensioner activation
  • Active headrest control
  • Adaptation of smart airbags towards crash situation and severity
  • Battery and fuel cut-off for vehicle safety
